Southgate Animal Hospital in Sarasota, FL is reminding pet owners to take precautions ahead of the July Fourth holiday, a period when thousands of pets go missing nationwide. According to the clinic, the days between July 4 and July 6 see a significant spike in lost pets each year.

The clinic is advising pet owners to verify that their animals have ID tags with current contact information and to consider microchipping as an added measure. Owners whose pets are already microchipped are encouraged to confirm that the associated information is up to date.
