Sarasota County Schools are set to begin the 2024-2025 school year on August 10. The Sarasota Police Department is reminding drivers to be aware of school zone speed limits as the start date approaches.

School zone speed limits within the City of Sarasota are set at either 15 mph or 20 mph, depending on the location. Drivers are advised to check posted signs in school zones along their commute routes.

According to the department, drivers who are cited for speeding in a school zone may face fines and points on their driver's license.
