Man Faces Additional Charge in Deputy-Involved Shooting in Sarasota

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has filed an additional charge of felony aggravated assault against Robert James Boast in connection with a deputy-involved shooting that occurred on April 2. Boast remains in custody with no bond.

According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a reported disturbance in the 2100 block of 59th Street in Sarasota at approximately 6:25 p.m. on Thursday, April 2. Upon making contact with Boast, he reportedly removed a handgun from his waistband and pointed it in the direction of a deputy. Two deputies discharged their agency-issued weapons in response.

Boast was originally taken into custody on an outstanding Manatee County warrant for violation of pretrial release related to a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information related to the case to contact the Criminal Investigations Section at (941) 861-4900.
