Sewer Overflow Reported on Captiva Drive in Sarasota

Sarasota County Public Utilities responded to a manhole overflow on Wednesday, March 25, at 2987 Captiva Drive in Sarasota. According to the county, the overflow occurred after a contractor damaged a private water line, which contributed to a grease buildup in the gravity sewer main.

Officials estimated that approximately 50 gallons of wastewater spilled. Roughly 1,000 gallons of combined wastewater and stormwater were recovered during the response. The county reported that no waterways were affected, though a stormwater structure was impacted.

According to the county, no water sampling is required, and cleanup is being conducted in accordance with standard protocol. Sarasota County's FOG inspection team is expected to assess the site to prevent future incidents.

Additional details on the incident are available through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's spill report page.
